Abhayrab Vaccine is administered to individuals at higher risk of rabies exposure, such as veterinarians, or to those who have been bitten by an animal suspected of carrying rabies. When given promptly and correctly, this vaccine is 100% effective in preventing the disease.
Administered by a doctor or nurse via injection, the vaccination process should begin as soon as possible after an animal bite, following thorough washing of the wound (for about 15 minutes with soap and plenty of water). Immediate treatment increases the chances of preventing rabies. In cases of exposure, the vaccination should typically include both rabies immunoglobulin and the vaccine, except for individuals who have already completed a previous rabies vaccination series. It is crucial to complete the full course of the vaccine to ensure effective protection against this potentially fatal disease.
Common side effects may include pain, joint discomfort, redness, or swelling at the injection site, which are generally short-lived. Lying down or resting can help alleviate these symptoms. Consult a doctor if side effects persist or cause concern.
Before receiving the vaccine, inform your doctor if you have had any allergic reactions to vaccines in the past. Additionally, let your doctor know about any other medications you are taking, as some may interact with the rabies vaccine.
